Queremos poder ayudarlos a alcanzar sus metas despu\u00e9s de la universidad, no solo terminar la universidad\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Organizacionalmente, eso significa que la WAEF se compromete a ayudar a los estudiantes que han sido seleccionados para las becas a lo largo de sus a\u00f1os de pregrado. Los estudiantes proporcionan actualizaciones trimestrales sobre su progreso universitario, presentan sus solicitudes de renovaci\u00f3n y participan en las entrevistas de renovaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, hace varios a\u00f1os, la junta directiva del grupo tom\u00f3 una decisi\u00f3n consciente de ayudar de una mejor manera a los estudiantes a alcanzar sus objetivos profesionales. Las ofertas incluyen recorridos de exploraci\u00f3n de carreras, eventos de observaci\u00f3n del trabajo, talleres de verano sobre temas como el presupuesto, la construcci\u00f3n de una red profesional, la participaci\u00f3n en las redes sociales en el mundo profesional y la preparaci\u00f3n para las entrevistas de trabajo.<\/p>\n<p>Los resultados est\u00e1n dando frutos, indic\u00f3. La gran mayor\u00eda de los estudiantes becados completan sus estudios, y el 80 por ciento de los beneficiarios son estudiantes de bajos ingresos que pertenecen a la primera generaci\u00f3n de sus familias en asistir a la universidad.<\/p>\n<p>Es un sistema de apoyo construido para ir m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de las becas, indic\u00f3 Kailan Dunn, miembro de la junta directiva y exbecario, quien ahora est\u00e1 en el \u00e1rea de ventas de la empresa H.R. Spinner Corp. en Yakima, Washington.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRealmente estamos invirtiendo nuestro tiempo y dinero en esto. Todos piensan que son solo becas, pero es mucho m\u00e1s que eso. Cada a\u00f1o incluimos algo m\u00e1s\u201d, explic\u00f3. \u201cSimulacros de entrevistas, hacer que los estudiantes vean diferentes trabajos, familiarizarlos con pasant\u00edas y oportunidades\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Eso incluye asegurarse de que entiendan que la agricultura actual se trata de mucho m\u00e1s que cosechar fruta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuchos de estos ni\u00f1os, que podr\u00edan ser los primeros en sus familias en ir a la universidad, piensan que recoger fruta es la \u00fanica oportunidad que existe en la industria de la fruta. Algo que la WAEF ha logrado es mostrarles que efectivamente, esos trabajos son esenciales y que siempre estar\u00e1n all\u00ed, pero que tambi\u00e9n existen las \u00e1reas de recursos humanos, contabilidad y otros innumerables trabajos. Hay muchas otras maneras de ser parte de la industria de los \u00e1rboles frutales\u201d, se\u00f1al\u00f3 Dunn.<\/p>\n<p>Hace dos a\u00f1os, con un desayuno de exalumnos durante la reuni\u00f3n anual de la Asociaci\u00f3n de \u00c1rboles Frutales del Estado de Washington, la WAEF comenz\u00f3 una asociaci\u00f3n de exalumnos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHa sido grato ver crecer esto\u201d, indic\u00f3. A 12 a\u00f1os de sus d\u00edas universitarios, agreg\u00f3: \u201cSoy el m\u00e1s viejo en ese grupo y es divertido ver qui\u00e9n est\u00e1 entrando; es bueno para ellos que me vean hacer aportaciones tanto econ\u00f3micas como de tiempo, y espero que eso los inspire a reciprocar tambi\u00e9n\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Witherbee comparti\u00f3 ese parecer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo solo recibes un cheque de la WAEF\u201d, aclar\u00f3. \u201cEs como si nunca te separaras de nosotros, y est\u00e1 dando frutos: cada vez tenemos m\u00e1s de nuestros estudiantes como voluntarios, tenemos un empleado que se gradu\u00f3 del programa, y cada vez hay m\u00e1s mentores.
