En diciembre de 2025, durante la reuni\u00f3n anual de la Asociaci\u00f3n de \u00c1rboles Frutales del Estado de Washington celebrada en Wenatchee, conversamos con Martin, residente de Mattawa, quien trabaja como supervisor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conociendo a Martin Martinez<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

H\u00e1blenos de su trayectoria laboral.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

En el a\u00f1o 2000, llegu\u00e9 a Monitor y trabaj\u00e9 en\u00a0Borton<\/a> Orchard. De ah\u00ed encontr\u00e9 otro trabajo donde me\u00a0ense\u00f1aron\u00a0a conducir tractor. Trabaj\u00e9 con manzanas,\u00a0cherries<\/em>\u00a0y perras. Luego me pusieron a cargo de un rancho en Quincy y ahora trabajo en Mattawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfRecibi\u00f3 apoyo durante ese tiempo?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flor (Servin) me consigui\u00f3 la licencia de\u00a0private aplicator,<\/em>\u00a0lo que me abri\u00f3 puertas. Trabaj\u00e9 tres meses de manera temporal en la uva. El supervisor me cay\u00f3 bien. \u00c9l me mand\u00f3 a los cursos de Frank (Sarmiento) en Wenatchee Valley College.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December 2025, during the annual meeting of the Washington State Tree Fruit Association held in Wenatchee, we spoke with Martin, from Mattawa, who works as a supervisor.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting to know Martin Martinez<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Tell us about your career path.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2000, I arrived in Monitor and worked at Borton Orchard. From there, I found another job where they taught me how to drive a tractor. I worked with apples, cherries and pears. Then I was put in charge of a ranch in Quincy, and from there, I worked in Mattawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did you receive support along the way?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flor Servin, pesticide safety educator with the Washington State Department of Agriculture and instructor for the Agricultural Leadership Program got me my private applicator license, which opened doors for me. I was a temporary employee for three months in the grape fields, and I liked my supervisor. He sent me to take classes from Frank Sarmiento, a member of the agriculture faculty at Wenatchee Valley College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your current responsibilities?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, I report hours and send out checks. In the vineyards, there are fewer people and more machinery. But once they explain it, you can do it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
