Kirk Mayer, manager of the Washington Growers Clearing House Association, has been named Apple Citizen of the Year by the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival.
Festival Royalty Roslyn Thompson, Nikara Morgan, and Caroline Dahl presented Mayer with the award on Tuesday (March 25).
Mayer, a graduate of Cashmere High School, joined the Clearing House 41 years ago as assistant manager after graduating from Washington State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He has been manager since Leo Sax retired in 1997
The Clearing House represents 2,000 Washington tree fruit growers on legislative and regulatory issues and publishes a weekly bulletin reporting volumes of tree fruits shipped from the state and prices obtained.
Mayer will be honored at the All Service Club Luncheon in Wenatchee on April 30 and will ride in the Stemilt Growers Apple Blossom Grand Parade on May 3.
