Pear handlers will elect nominees for a Wenatchee district grower position and a handler position on the Fresh Pear Committee of Marketing Order 927.
The positions will be filled at the Pear Day meeting, scheduled for 10:50 a.m. on January 17 at the Wenatchee Convention Center (121 N. Wenatchee Avenue, Wenatchee, WA 98801).
The grower position is held by Matt McDevitt, with Kevin Stennes and Daryl Harnden serving as first and second alternates, respectively. McDevitt has served the maximum three consecutive terms.
The handler position is held by Craig Christensen, with Dan Kenoyer and Ken Jackson serving as first and second alternates, respectively. Christensen has served the maximum three consecutive terms.
The committee is responsible for the collection of assessments for research and the promotion and advertising of all pears marketed in the domestic and export markets.
All pear growers and handlers are eligible to attend and participate in the respective nominations. The committee encourages women, minorities, and the physically challenged, who qualify as pear growers/handlers, to attend and participate in the nomination proceedings.
Names of those elected will be submitted to the Secretary of Agriculture for official appointment to the committee, and will serve for a two-year period.
