During the harvest of 1946, the absence of cash buyers was making growers nervous, writes publisher F. W. Shields in his column. In previous years, growers had found apple selling easy, but the market was changing around them. “There were buyers on every hand with cash to trade for apples. This year, there are plenty of apple men, but the cash is absent. In consequence of this, many growers must soon select some individual firm or organization to market their apples.”
