Conociendo a Karina Valencia
¿Como empezaste a trabajar en la agricultura?
Al principio fui trabajadora general por necesidad. De ahí agarré amor a la agricultura, de verdad. Cada día tienes la oportunidad de hacer algo mejor en los árboles.
¿Cuáles son sus responsabilidades actuales?
Entre otras cosas, como jefe de equipo soy responsable de recoger a los trabajadores H-2A y asignarles trabajos. Hemos tenido problemas, pero me apego a la política de la empresa.
¿Qué le gusta más de su trabajo?
Nuestra fruta es orgánica. Es más difícil porque hay que combatir plagas con recursos naturales. Me encanta saber que las personas van a obtener un producto más libre de químicos. Sientes satisfacción al ver el resultado final.

We spoke with Karina, a resident of Royal City, a crew leader with Zirkle Fruit Co. and a student in the HOEEP (Hispanic Orchard Employee Education Program) at Wenatchee Valley College, in December 2025, during the annual meeting of the Washington State Tree Fruit Association, held in Wenatchee.
Getting to know Karina Valencia
How did you get your start in agriculture?
At first, I was a general laborer out of necessity. From there, I really fell in love with agriculture. Every day you have the opportunity to do something better with the trees.
What are your current responsibilities?
Among other things, as a team leader I am responsible for picking up H-2A workers and assigning them jobs. We have had (some challenges), but I stick to company policy.
What do you like most about your job?
Our fruit is organic. It’s more difficult because you have to combat pests with natural resources. I love knowing that people are going to get a product that is more chemical-free. You feel a sense of satisfaction when you see the end result.
