WSU-USDA Sunrise Research Farm Field Day on Sept. 23

Washington State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture will host a field day at the Sunrise Research Farm in Rock Island on Sept. 23. The event will feature rotating, hands-on stations covering: 

—Apple sunburn physiology, including a demonstration of controlled sunburn experiments to better identify thresholds for sunburn browning and necrosis in apples.

—Apple postharvest management, including WA 38 maturity facts, mitigating WA 38 greasiness and WA 64 pre- and postharvest management strategies.

Orchard soil health, including a trial focused on alternative methods for mitigating replant disease at the long-term research and extension site for soil health.

—Non-target effects with codling moth control, including a drape netting trial testing different approaches to mitigate the non-target effects without compromising control of codling moth.

—X-disease, including current research into leafhopper feeding behavior and mating calls to better understand vector use of host plants.
