The Internation Dwarf Fruit Tree Association met in Washington for the first time in 1985, drawing over 800 attendees for conference presentations featuring speakers from Holland, Italy, Australia and Canada, as well as several U.S. states. Photos of the “ultra high density apple plantings” of up to 1600 trees per acre in Holland graced the cover of the Good Fruit Grower issue that covered the conference proceedings.
